Shopping for girls this summer? Well, today you’re in for a treat! Please give a warm KID independent welcome to the extremely talented handmaiden, Wee-Nee from Daffy & Daisy. Wee-Nee has been sewing like crazy in preparation for her spring summer release (this Thursday 15 Oct, 2015) and today we’d like to give you a little sneaky peek at what’s in store!

About Daffy & Daisy…

I started Daffy & Daisy 5 years ago when I was a stay at home mum to my first daughter. I wanted a creative outlet and also wanted to dress my daughter in things that I made. So I learnt. And made her first dress, and then her second. Then her wardrobe expanded ten fold. It was at that point I took up the challenge to create a brand.

Five years later I have finally learnt who I am and what my style is… I love all things vintage but I also love modern touches. These two things combined makes for a very well dressed young girl.

When I look around my work space I see…

Fabric, fabric and more fabric!  If you see my work space you will definitely get a sense of what kind of fabric addict I am, much to the annoyance of my husband! It’s one of those things, once you start buying you can’t stop!

When I grew up I wanted to be a…

Journalist… but I actually became an IT business analyst by day and handmaiden by night! My night job is my real passion, and my day job is what keeps my night job going (especially with all the fabric buying)!

My idea of complete happiness is…

Striking a balance between family and work. My family are my everything – my three beautiful children and the most amazing husband on this planet. Since I work full time as well and sew at night, finding that balance between family and work is very important to me. I can’t say I fully know complete happiness just yet, but I am on my way that’s for sure.

My design style is influenced by…

All things vintage plus a bit of modern twist and flare. Peter pan collars are my thing and I love the old school classic look on young girls. Throwing in some modern touches really balances out the vintage style in today’s world.

If I were a superhero, my super power would be…

Fitting in everything I need to do in a 24 hour period into an 8 hour day, and then being able to go to bed at a decent hour every day!

The first handmade product that I made for my store was…

A flutter sleeve peasant dress! I was so proud of my first dress, took a million pics in all sorts of angles and posted it on my Facebook page.

My biggest weakness is…

I’m a little bit of a pushover (my kids know this very well!), especially when it comes to helping someone out. I have issues saying no which sometimes can be a weakness. Through my business, I have slowly been learning how to say no but there is still room for improvement!

My favourite materials to work with are…

Cotton! 100% cotton. There’s nothing nicer than working with cotton. It’s easy to cut, sew, iron and feels great against the skin of a young child. All our items are made with 100% cotton, some are lightweight, others heavier.

I have been adventurous in the past sewing with knits, tulle, voile but at the end of the day I’m most comfortable with cotton. Not to mention all the wonderful floral prints that are available in cotton!

The next handmade item I plan to make is…

A vintage inspired summer romper and playsuit. These 2 items will feature in our next drop for Spring/Summer 2015.

The first drop of Daffy & Daisy’s spring/summer collection is happening this Thursday 15th October at 10.00am via the Daffy & Daisy website. There will also be a second drop, closer to Christmas.
